Why now when we have recently had generous legacies?

The legacies to us and to the Friends of St Mary's will enable us to make significant progress in catching up with the much needed preservation of the stonework and provide a reasonable contingency against the unexpected but inevitable demands of a major historic building. It will enable us to ensure that the organ restoration is completed and hopefully for the electrical system and lighting to be brought to modern standards. However if we have to use these funds to cover everyday running costs we will soon exhaust these funds with little to show. Today's church should aim to meet its own running costs.

It is an exciting time for St Mary's. The restructuring of the Parish next year will provide new opportunities. Coupled to the growth we have seen over recent months we have an opportunity to move forward. But these developments will be hampered if we have to direct our efforts into fund raising. Hopefully the further growth stimulated will provide additional funds which we can then use to further God's work in our area.

Steps to take

1 Think prayerfully over your responsibility to the Church and the resources God has entrusted to you.

2 Discuss any points you wish to raise on this campaign with your Stewardship visitor if you would find this helpful.

3 Complete the pledge form and if possible make payments under gift aid.
