A day in the life in each century

1250 Monk A day in life of a monk at Ashridge – 8 miles away and the walk to church selling relics and forgiveness

1350 Spire A steeplejack building the spire ideas from Hemel and Salisbury spire resoration

1450 Market Day in the Church – the church was the corn exchange, market and the store of all the local ale – such problems occurred with rowdiness that the local vicar arranged for a special house to be built.

1550 Dissolution of the Monasteries Something about the sacking and destruction

1650 Puritans  Something about the austere life under the puritans all holidays were abolished

1750 Industrial revolution ?? People lost all their jobs – what was the local industry? Poor Act poor Laws

1850 Rebuilding the church. Investigation into the Paston-Cooper Burials in the House of Commons The Paston-Coopers emptied the crypt to have their remains inside instead of those previously occupying the crypt

1950 New Town – new churches appearing, but I want to go to St Mary’s instead of the little satellite churches.

2004 Organ Restoration Raising funds with a smaller and smaller congregation
